Hi everyone, my name is Nick Richardson. I am one of the 3rd Cornets.
Like many of the other members of the Sumner Silver Band I have a long connection to Sumner through my parents Denny and David Richardson and my family.
I left home at 16 and joined the Army. I served for 20 years in the Royal New Zealand Signals Corps serving in Singapore for 2 years. I retired as a Sergeant. From there I went to Teachers college and University gaining my Bachelor of Education degree. I have now taught at Chisnallwood Intermediate full time for 19 years.
I got involved in the band when I mentioned to Peter Croft that I am learning to play the trumpet at school. Playing in the band is a great experience for me and a big learning curve.
My sports and hobbies include history, model yacht sailing and reading. I am an active member of the Christchurch yacht club (Past Commodore) I still race a laser yacht.
I am married to Sandra a nurse lecturer at UC. I have a daughter who like me is a teacher, a son you has just completed his PhD in History and my Grandson Ben.
I always look forward to working with the amazing members of the band, be it when we are performing or rehearsing at Redcliffs School. I really appreciate the fact the band members continue to work with me and are always encouraging and positive.
