Colin Lyons Honoured

At the recent Canterbury Provincial Championships Sumner Silver Band’s percussion player, Colin Lyons, was honoured for contributing to brass banding in Canterbury over 70 years! To put this into perspective, any youngster starting their brass band career now will have to still be playing in the 2090s to achieve the same distinction!

Colin has been associated with Sumner Silver Band since 1957, and in his time has also played with Derry’s Band, Woolston Working Men’s Club Silver Band, 50s Up Brass, Rangiora Brass and Kaipoi Brass as well as making guest appearances for other bands. From 1997 to 2003 while living in New South Wales Colin also played with Manly District Band.
