2024 Canterbury Provincial Contest

Sumner Silver Band did not enter the 2024 CPBBA contest, but that did not prevent a number of members from taking part in the contest as soloist or in ensembles.

Preparing for a contest as a soloist or as part of a small ensemble provides a great opportunity for development as a player since, unlike in a full band, there is absolutely nowhere to hide so you need to be on top of your game. Hence, long after the performance has finished and the adjudicators have delivered their verdicts, the benefits of an intense period of preparation remain.

Phillipa Foulds and Mark Young

Phillipa, Mark, Peter Wise and Gill all took part as soloists, and the band also entered two ensembles - The Moonlighters and The Bay Ensemble.
